KINGDOM LIFE

A caring woman in Saulsville was approached by social workers in 1999 to care for two children who desperately needed immediate rescue from abusive family members. This motivated her to establish the Kingdom Life Children Centre (KLCC).
In a few months Ms Magoba had more destitute children, and she could not turn them away from her 3-bedroomed house which was fast becoming an orphanage. With the assistance of the local councillor she moved into an old building named Vembe Centre (previously a clinic), where she now resides with 45 children.
The vision is to provide a home for neglected, orphaned, abused and disadvantaged children thus giving them an opportunity to develop in a loving, and caring environment, and impart values and empowering them to reach for the sky.
The need for a management body to guide the KLCC soon became apparent. A Management Committee was elected and the first Annual General Meeting was held in 2004. The management of the House is done by the Manager of the house, assisted by volunteers.
Since the beginning of this project in 1999 it has been growing to accommodate different types of needs of the community at large: caring for homeless children, sheltering abused women (temporary), caring for the elderly, giving after-school lessons and teaching women income generating skills. We intend meeting those needs as best we can for as long as we can.
The children are doing well in their school work and most of them pass their grades every year. They have regular cultural dances and the choir performs at different venues regularly. The children assist in the daily routine of the house and have learned regular house tasks.
The building was renovated in 2006 and a Municipal Certificate issued to the Home by the Fire Brigade, Health Care and Safety in 2007.

Nellmapius soup kitchen

Nellmapius is an informal settlement adjacent to Silverton. The Christian Welfare Society has a consulting room at Nellmapius as well as the services of a full-time social worker. Soup is provided to the needy of Nellmapius on a weekly basis. A small brick building on the church premises is utilized for this purpose. The Christian Welfare Society's steel container is situated right next to the church premises. Soup is provided on Wednesdays between 2 and 3 o'clock. Approximately 170 individuals receive soup and 2 slices of bread from the soup kitchen every Wednesday. The CWS also endeavours to provide clothes to the needy, of which there are many.
The true meaning of hunger and poverty becomes clear to all the Samaritans involved at the soup kitchen each Wednesday. The hungry and needy, which include adults as well as children, queue in front of the soup kitchen, eagerly awaiting their share. There are also the elderly who depend on the soup kitchen for one hot meal per week, because their pensions are lacking.
Assupol Life has been involved with this soup kitchen for some time now. We donate funds on a monthly basis to assist the soup kitchen in providing at least one hot meal per week to those in need. It is only when one notices the eagerness with which such a basic meal is accepted, that one realizes how great the suffering amongst our fellowmen is. Assupol Life gladly does its share to relieve the need at Nellmapius.
